Gauge on top of the engine is for fuel pressure.

Here is how I formed the clearance for the engine in the side of the covers.

I made a pattern out of wood and clamped the part to it. I used a propane torch to anneal the aluminum to make it soft.

Then I made a poor-man's English Wheel. I made a bracket on the end of a pipe with a flange to put my foot on.

I rolled the wheel, annealed, rolled, annealed etc until I formed it deep enough.

The part curled up a bit.......
